Weekend trip

This past weekend, Chris and I attended a wedding in Brownwood, TX, home of Howard Payne University. The bride is a member of Chris' church in Crowley and so we went to show our support to her and her family. It was a nice wedding and it gave us a chance to get away from Fort Worth. We had to travel on highway 377 the whole way, which provided us a chance to go through lots of small towns, with lots of historical markers along the way that I read to Chris as we passed them. One of the small towns was Dublin, TX, which is the home of the infamous Dr. Pepper. I convinced Chris to stop at the "soda shop" in Dublin so that we could get a real "Dublin Dr. Pepper". When you buy a "Dublin Dr. Pepper", you are buying a soda with pure cane sugar in it, and I will tell you that I did not enjoy it all that much. I am glad we had the experience, but I will stick with my Diet Coke.

Home Again

Ahhh, I am finally back home in my tiny apartment. I never thought I would be glad about that, but I am. I have been housesitting for 3 1/2 weeks and I had a great time and I will miss the dogs, but I missed being in my own place. I did not sleep well the whole time I was there, so I was glad to get a good nights sleep last night.
Even though he will roll his eyes as I say this, but I have to give losts of thanks and bragging to Chris. He knew it was really important for me to come home to a clean apartment and so he cleaned for me! It was wonderful, the floors were shiny, the sheets were clean, and the dishes were clean too! He HATES to do dishes, so this was a really sweet thing he did for me.
Other than moving back into my apt, my life is filled with work and clients for counseling. God has been so good to me in the past few weeks. For my counseling program here at seminary, I have to have 5 hours per week where I see a client face-to-face. Well at the beginning of the semester, I was only having 1 or 2 hours a week for counseling which put me way behind and my profs were not happy. So, in the past few weeks I have been trying to play catch-up. By the end of this week I should probably have ~14 counseling hours just for this week! Yay! So, I am getting closer to catching up, which is good because I start my Systematic Theology II class the week after next. So, God is good!!

An update is long overdue!!

I have been housesitting for Dr. Yeats, who is a prof here at the seminary, so my time has been spent at his house. The most fun part of thie housesitting has been to take care of his two dogs. I have loved being there with them and they are so sweet and really good guard dogs!

This is Eddie

This is Puk, I imagine him thinking "Whatchoo looking at?" He is so cute!

This is Eddie looking like he is shy

This is Puk sorta smiling, or maybe he has his mouth open because he thinks I am going to feed him something???

Well, you know Chris and I like to have fun when we go shopping, so this is a pic of him in Target looking for a drink of water....

Well, I haven’t had much to blog about lately, so I will share this random story of rudeness that I witnessed today at the bank.

So, there I was pulling up to the drive-thru at Bank of America during lunch. I was surprised that I didn’t have to wait to get a spot! Well, the lady next to me was being helped when I arrived. So, I waited, then I waited, and then I waited some more. Evidently this lady next to me didn’t have all of her paper work that she needed to get the money that she wanted. So, the guy helping her (who was the only one working the window) kept going over and over with her that he couldn’t do what she wanted because she had not supplied all of the info for him. Well, she ended up leaving, so the lady behind her drove up to the window and proceeded to say in a very rude voice that the lady that just left was the only car that had been helped in the past 14 minutes. Granted, I was a little irritated at this point too, but do you think that this guy didn’t know that he couldn’t help another customer out because of the aforementioned absent minded customer? Does she really think that she was enlightening him on some new information???

This immediately made me feel bad for the guy because I could identify with him. He was just trying to do his job the best that he could and then this crotchety lady had to come up and yell at him. I deal with rude people every day and sometimes it really gets to me because people blame me because of some mistake that they made or maybe it is just because they don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions, and so they feel that they have to talk to me in a demeaning manner in order to make themselves feel better.

I remember when I was working at a restaurant in college and some lady chewed my head off because her food didn’t come out as fast as she had anticipated. There was another lady that came up after her and tried to comfort me and tell me that I didn’t do anything wrong and that I was doing the best I could. So, I tried to “pay it forward” today by letting that guy know that the other lady was just being rude and obnoxious and to not let it bother him because he was only doing his job.

So, what can we gain from this class? Well, always remember when you are dealing with someone in customer service that they may need a little grace and encouragement and being rude and irritable wont get you very far, and it makes you look like an idiot!!
