You remember when it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.

You begged for some GAK, and when you got that they came out with scented GAK, and when you got that they came out with funny scented GAK.....

You remember reading "Goosebumps"

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.

You danced to "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, Females: had a new motto, Males: got a whole lot gay-er. (so tell me what you want, what you really really want.)

You remember the craze, then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books.....

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence...Not...

You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record "Your FAVORITE song of ALL time"....with a tape recorder held up to the radio lol!!

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? was both a game and a TV game show.

When playing power rangers with friends you fought over who got to be who............and still all ended up being Tommy.

You remember when super nintendo's became popular.

You always wanted to send in a tape to America's Funniest Home Videos... but never taped anything funny.

You remember watching home alone 1, 2 , and 3........and tried to pull the pranks on "intruders""

You watched the original Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Ninja Turtles

Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff!

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.(pencils.notebooks.binders.etc.)

You remember when the new Beanie Babies and talking Elmo were always sold out.

You used to wear those stick on earrings, not only on your ears, but at the corners of your eyes.

You remember a time before the WB.

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

You know the Macarena by heart.

"Talk to the hand" ... enough said

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!

"When we were younger:
Before the MySpace frenzy...
Before the Internet & text messaging...
Before Sidekicks & iPods...
Before MIKE JONES...
Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX......
Back when you put off the 5 hours of homework you had every night.
When light up sneakers were cool.
When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.
When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing.
When we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 for a movie.
When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans.
When 2Pac and Biggie where alive.
When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.
Way back. Before we realized all this would eventually disappear
Who would have thought you'd miss the 90's so much!!!!!

I just returned from Jacksonville, FL for my friend Kelley’s wedding. First of all, I will say congrats to Kelley and Erik! It was a beautiful wedding and I want my wedding to be very similar to theirs because it was so elegant and classy.
Well, I have heard it said that every wedding has a “story”, well Erick and Kelley are no exception to this myth! I knew it was going to be a wild weekend when I was caught in traffic on the way to the airport, but thanks to Lauren and her mad driving skills, I made it on time!! So, I get on the plane safely and on time, then we take off and I try to start reading my New Testament book for my class at seminary when all of the sudden one of the flight attendants yells “Code Red” over the intercom. So, we are all freaking out because we are 33,000 ft in the air and we have no idea what “code red” is. So, we are wondering is “code red” for telling us that we are going done in a spiral descent, but who knows!! One of the flight attendants starts running down the aisle and gets a defibrillator, first aid kit, and an oxygen tank. Evidently, they thought some guy was having a heart attack. Turns out that he just passed out. Whew!!
Well, that is not nearly the end of the excitement. Upon arrival in Jacksonville, I was picked up by the bride and two other bridesmaids. On the way to the bride’s house, we witnessed a car wreck. We were only a couple of cars behind the wreck, so we stopped because it was a single car accident. As soon as we stopped the car, we all hopped out to check on the lady in the car. It was a miracle. She was in a little Toyota sports car convertible. The top was down and she spun out and hit the guard rail twice, and she was perfectly fine, except for being incredibly shaken up. We all stayed with her until the cops showed up, 30 minutes after we called 911. The lady’s husband even arrived at the scene before the cops did, way to go Jax PD! Once the police arrived, we decided to head to the bride’s house.
We got back in the car, and once we got on the interstate, we heard these really weird sounds, turns out we had a flat tire!!! We had only gone about 150 yards before we noticed. The husband of the lady in the car wreck came over and offered to change the flat for us. Turns out there was a nail in the tire, so if we hadn’t stopped to help the lady in the car wreck, we could have had a blow-out and had a wreck.
So, we thought that was gonna be the end of Erick and Kelley’s “wedding story”. Yeah right!! After the tire was changed, we went and picked up another bridesmaid at the airport and then headed safely back to the bride’s house. We had shower for Kelley that night, and during the shower we get a call from the groom. He and his groomsmen went out to eat and on the way home, one of the groomsmen was pulled over for speeding. The policeman pulled the groomsman out of the car and asked for his license. He obliged, but when he pulled out his wallet, his pocketknife fell out of his pocket and the officer completely overreacted. He thought the groomsman was “pulling a knife on him”. Which was totally not what happened. Long story short, the groomsman was arrested and was thankfully released less than 24 hours before the wedding. It was a complete misunderstanding, but still makes for a good story. We had all of these hiccups before the wedding only to have a perfect day for the wedding. The weather was perfect and everything was wonderful. I was honored to be a part of this special day and I am very happy for Kelley and Erick Peckarek!!!

This is the car of the lady who had the wreck. We took this picture after we had left the scene and had to stop again because of the flat tire.

Stranded with a flat tire, notice the nice man changing the tire! This nice man is actually in the Navy and is based in Jacksonville, FL. Kelley's dad is getting his Ph.D in robotics at the University of Florida. While this nice man was changing our tire, Kelley is on the phone with her mom and she is trying to convince her mom that we didnt need her dad to come out and help us. To get the point across, this is what Kelley tells her mom, "Mom, he is in the Navy, I think that trumps dad's robot stuff!" Yeah, she kinda got in trouble for that comment!

9 bridesmaids, 1 flower girl, and 1 bride

Melissa, Bonnie, and Ali (the seminary friends of the bride)

Summer, the beginning of new things….
So, many new things for me are on the horizon. A big chapter in my life is coming to an end, and it feels wonderful and sad all at the same time. I began my counseling practicum this very week one year ago. I remember how scared I was to think that people would actually want to and need to come to me for advice and direction. What an overwhelming responsibility. I was ready though, so I thought. I have learned so much about myself in the past year, the most significant thing I have learned is that I don’t know as much as I though I knew. What a bummer!! I have been put in my place by my clients, co-counselors, and supervisors. Just a little humbling. Now I am on what we call the other side! I am in my fourth semester of practicum, which means that I can do counseling in an agency outside of school. I believe the Lord led me to do my internship at an abused women’s shelter. Wow, what a culture shock. I have been sitting in on a group at the shelter for the past two weeks and I am seeing so many new things. One thing I am seeing is the ultimate depravity of man. I cannot legally tell you all the things that I have seen, and to be honest, I am not sure if you would believe me. One thing that the Lord has taught me is that my personal world is very small. Most of you who read this are educated and have never lived in poverty or had to hurt someone, whether it be physically, emotionally, or mentally, in order to get something that you wanted or needed. My advice to you since my eyes have been opened is to broaden your world. The shelter that I work in is able to function purely on the activity of their volunteers. I have never thought of volunteering somewhere because I convinced myself that I am too busy, but to see the immense need that these women have tugs at my heart. The one thing that saddens me the most about being in the shelter is to see all of the kids who are the innocent bystanders of abuse and/or neglect. It isn’t their fault, but they still suffer the consequences of their parents. Take a look at the little girl in the picture and imagine how different your life would have been if you hadn’t been born into such a good family. We have been given so many blessings and so many resources, so my soap box message for the day is to go and be someone’s hero.
