Joke for the day

Ok, this is pretty lame, but I laughed outloud, so maybe you will too....

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club.
A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker- function and begins to talk.
Everyone else in the room stops to listen.
Man: "Hello"
Woman: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"
Man: "Yes"
Woman: "I'm at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"
Man: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much."
Woman: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2007 models. I saw one I really liked."
Man: "How much?"
Woman: "$65,000."
Man: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."
Woman: "Great! Oh, and one more thing. The house we wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000."
Man: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer, but just offer $900,000."
Woman: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you!"
Man: "Bye, I love you, too."
The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are looking at him in astonishment. Then he smiles and asks: "Anyone know whose phone this is?"

These are the days of my life.....

Well, nothing extremely interesting is happening here. I have been in my Systematic Theology class for two weeks now and I have about two weeks to go. I am working on a presentation with four guys. The class is divided up and given topics to debate with other class members, but we dont get to choose our topic. Luckily, I was given a topic that I believe in and it will be easy for me to support this side of the argument. The argument that we are debating is wether or not women can be pastors in a church. Thankfully, my group was given the side to debate that we believe the Bible teaches that women cannot be pastors in a church. We have been doing A LOT of reading on this subject and it is extremely interesting but the topic will be heated nonetheless. So, that is pretty much the only exciting thing that is going on. Chris is housesitting again this weekend, so we will have pictures up in a few days of the enormous dog that he has the pleasure of taking care of this weekend. Some exciting news at least for me is that I have realized in the past few days that I am almost done with my counseling practicum!! Yay! I didnt realize I was this close. I only have four more Mondays and Saturdays for counseling appointments and only three more Tuesday nights. Omigosh, I cant believe it. I have been in the practicum program since May 2005 and I feel like it has owned my soul and prohibited me from so many thigns and now it will be over!! Dont get me wrong, if I had the choice, I would be counseling full-time and doing nothing else, but I have to finish my classes first. So, it will definitely be a burden that will be lifted.

Well, there ya go....that is my update on my not-so-much-of-a-soap-opera-life.

The More you know....

The more I learn, the more I realize that I know so little. I have completed my first week in my Systematic Theology II class and I leave there every day with my head spinning. I began to become overwhelmed today in class because I thought I at least had a grasp on some truths of the Bible, but I have come to learn that things aren’t always as they appear in the Word. So, the thought ran through my mind, “Well, what is the point by learning anything new if I keep realizing that there is still so much out there to learn”. Then I realized that type of thinking was paralyzing me. We as humans will never get to the point where we know everything about God, because we…..are….not…..God. That doesn’t mean that we should stop trying to learn, it just means that we should be open to our ideas being challenged and working on sharpening our understanding of God and His creation.

This concept can also be applied in other situations. Sometimes we get discouraged because someone may seem to have it easier and/or better than we do (aka “The grass is always greener on the other side” complex), and so we get discouraged and tell ourselves that we will never be as good as them or we start to envy the things that they have or the things that they are able to do. This is our natural tendency, and it gets us into trouble. In Mark 7, Jesus is talking about what makes a man clean or unclean. He says that such things as malice, arrogance, and envy can come out of a man’s heart and make him unclean. So, our natural tendency (our flesh) is the thing that we need to fight against to become more like Christ. The last time I looked in Galatians 5, envy was not in the list of the fruits of the spirit but it is in the list of the deeds of the flesh. How many times will it take us to learn that our flesh is in constant battle with the spirit, and to walk in the spirit, we need to realize the battle and be prepared to fight against our flesh. Sheesh this is hard stuff! But yet it is so simple…..

Well, we celebrated Emily's birthday this weekend by "shoot'n em up" out at Thomas' place. We had a good cook-out, excellent cake, and then target practice. Bodacious posed for this once-in-a-lifetime photo. As we were taking the picture, Emily's mom was saying this in the background "Oh what a good picture, y'all look like....uh....uh....a gang" Wow, that is priceless.
